Project Description
The Trailblazer Adventure Program introduces young people and their families to the outdoor lifestyle. Trailblazer Adventure Days are held at Boy Scout Council facilities or other suitable locations. Participants engage in fishing, archery, conservation education, firearms marksmanship, and other activities. Because parents are the decision-makers when it comes to their children’s activities, the program recruits parents as well as children. Trailblazer is built on a partnership between youth-serving organizations (Boy Scouts of America; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Boys and Girls Clubs; Camp Fire USA; Girl Scouts of the USA; US Military’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Program; and the YMCA); the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and its member agencies; the National Shooting Sports Foundation; Georgia Department of Natural Resources; Ohio Division of Wildlife; West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation, its Outdoor Business Council (i.e., Cabela’s, The Sportsmen’s Guide, Nosler, Inc., Smith and Wesson, Remington, Marlin, Federal, Hunters Specialties, Crosman, Outdoor Channel, Hodgdon, Benelli, and others); its sportsmen’s conservation clubs and participating national conservation organizations. Participants are surveyed before and after each event to evaluate the program’s effect and influence.
