All-Bird Conservation Workshops
Since October 2001, thirty-four all-bird conservation workshops have taken place, involving more than 2,100 participants. A state fish and wildlife agency has hosted each workshop and each has employed either a statewide or a regional (BCR) approach. In the statewide approach, the participants received presentations on the bird conservation initiatives and then broke out into groups to focus on resolving issues and meeting objectives specific to the host state. In the BCR approach, participants from several states met at one location to work on regional issues.
The all-bird conservation workshops were highly successful. They provided state resource managers and their partners with information on the major objectives and recommendations found in national and regional bird conservation plans; and provided regional managers the opportunity to ask questions of subject matter experts, discuss their concerns, and receive answers to technical questions. They included the development of State All-Bird Initiatives and Joint Venture partnerships. Others developed regional all-bird conservation plans. Still others have focused on providing information specific to the State Wildlife Action Plans.
