For your convenience, we provide you with the following links to bird conservation initiatives.

Joint Ventures: Joint Ventures are public-private partnerships that were originally established by the North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP) to coordinate implementation of NAWMP and achievement of population and habitat objectives along flyway lines across North America.  The Joint Ventures facilitate partnership building and project funding through a variety of funding sources.  Most significant among these sources is the North American Wetland Conservation Act (NAWCA).

North American Bird Conservation Initiative: This initiative seeks to ensure the long-term health of North America's native bird populations by increasing the effectiveness of new and existing bird conservation initiatives, enhancing coordination among the initiatives, and fostering greater cooperation among public and private bird conservation interests.

North American Grouse Partnership: The North American Grouse Partnership is a citizen-based advocacy group for grouse. It began from a meeting of 13 biologists, ranchers, attorneys, educators, doctors, veterinarians, and others who met to discuss their common concern over the decline of various grouse species throughout North America.

North American Waterfowl Management Plan: The plan provides a continental strategy for restoring North American waterfowl populations to the levels seen in the 1970s. It emphasizes the importance of partnerships in conserving habitats important to waterfowl.

Northern Bobwhite Conservation Initiative - Southeast Quail Study Group (SEDSQ): The Southeast Quail Study Group (SEQSG) is comprised of over 100 wildlife professionals from state and federal agencies, universities, and private organizations.  The SEQSG is guided by a 7-member Steering Committee. The Group also has six Standing Committees: 1) Agricultural Policy, 2) Forest Management, 3) Funding, 4) Habitat Implementation, 5) Publicity, Information and Education, and 6) Research. Committee chairmen contact information is listed elsewhere on this website.

Partners In Flight:  Partners In Flight is a cooperative venture involving federal, state, and local government agencies, professional organizations, conservation groups, industry, academia, and private individuals. Partners agree to participate in collaborative efforts  that benefit land birds and their habitats in North America and the Neotropics.

Sage Grouse Conservation Project: The Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies recently completed the most comprehensive, science based assessment of the Greater sage grouse itself and its habitats.  In this report, from the Western Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA), the ecological status and potential factors that influenced greater sage-grouse and sagebrush habitats across their entire distribution. WAFWA used a large-scale approach to identify regional patterns of habitat, disturbance, land use practices, and population trends. Literature is included, spanning the last 200 years, landscape information dating back 100 years, and population data collected over the last 60 years.

United States Shorebird Conservation Plan: The U.S. Shorebird Conservation Plan is a partnership effort undertaken throughout the United States to ensure that stable and self-sustaining populations of all shorebird species are restored and protected.

Waterbird Conservation for the Americas:  This initiative seeks to restore the distribution, diversity, and abundance of waterbird populations and habitats throughout the lands and waters of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Dedicated to the conservation, protection, and enhancement of fish and wildlife and their habitats.
