Regional Dialogue
There has been an expressed interest in exploring the benefits of regional forums, where state agencies can share information about wind power in the hopes of providing opportunities for increased collaboration and communication. More information will be provided as this discussion continues.
Wind Energy Symposium 2006

March 21, 2006
The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, The Wildlife Society, and the Wildlife Management Institute sponsored a one day session on wind energy. The session was organized to introduce the impacts and issues related to wind energy, present the state of knowledge on the impacts, and begin a broader discussion among wildlife management agencies on wind energy and siting projects.

Wind Farms and Bird Collisions Workshop
Mexico 2006
Wind power development is just beginning in Mexico , with developers focused on southern Mexico , a critical migration route for many neotropical migratory birds traveling from the US . In an effort to share experiences and mitigation techniques with colleagues in Mexico , Association staff helped develop and facilitated a wind power symposium in Mexico on October 3, 2006 . The Symposium was successful with participants from Mexico , Central America , Canada , Germany , Sweden , the U.S. and other countries. Association staff is helping to develop wind power development recommendations that will be sent to the Mexican government per the request of Mexican participants.
Colorado Wind Workshop 2006
The Colorado Division of Wildlife, in cooperation with state and federal resource management agencies, the wind power industry, non-governmental conservation organizations and private landowners, sponsored a symposium and workshop, Wind Power and Wildlife in Colorado , Jan. 23 – 25, 2006. The goals of the event were to (1) make available up-to-date information about the effects of wind power development on wildlife and ways to minimize impacts, (2) make available information about applicable Colorado laws, regulations, and guidance associated with wind power and wildlife, and (3) to foster an open dialogue between the wildlife conservation community and the wind industry in Colorado.
The symposium and workshop brought together resource management agencies, the wind power industry, consultants, and private landowners to proactively learn about and discuss interactions between wind facilities and wildlife in Colorado . Wind Power Symposium at The Wildlife Society Annual Meeting 2007
The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies is working with Bat Conservation International and The Wildlife Society to help sponsor a wind power symposium at The Wildlife Society 14th Annual Conference in Tucson , Arizona September 22-26, 2007.
