Science and Research Committee
Committee Description
The Science and Research Committee is responsible for keeping the Association informed of the ecological research and information needs of the States and to manage a process for addressing those needs through a variety of mechanisms, including enhanced Federal-State partnerships.
The Committee meets this charge by:
- Collecting research and information needs
- Evaluating and prioritizing needs
- Facilitating the transfer of existing information to address specific needs
- Prioritizing needs that must be addressed through new research projects
- Coordinating action plans with research organizations (Federal, State, and others)
- Evaluating the progress/findings of the research efforts and facilitating the effective dissemination/translation of research findings into management implications
The committee will work with State representatives (from IAFWA technical committees, State research divisions, Regional Associations, and others) to determine the highest priority research/information needs that are common to multiple States and would typically require larger ecological scale (across several States) studies.
The committee will coordinate the evaluation of high priority research and information needs with research/information organizations to identify existing sources of information and specific mechanisms to transfer/translate the information to end users.
The committee will develop, in coordination with research organizations, an action plan to initiate new research needed to address needs articulated by the States. Similar research needs at the project level may be aggregated into larger research initiatives for consideration by research organizations during budget development.
The committee will, on a regular basis, evaluate the effectiveness of new and ongoing research to meet the priority research needs. This includes mechanisms for transferring and disseminating the information to managers/decision makers in a timely manner.
