Bird Conservation
Committee Description
The Bird Conservation Committee is responsible for keeping the Association informed on all migratory wildlife.
The committee should keep current with developments and maintain active liaison with the Fish and Wildlife Service and the Legal Counsel. The Committee should continue to work closely with the flyway councils, interagency advisory groups, the Cooperative Lead Poisoning Control Information Program, and the Department of the Interior in support of lead poisoning abatement in migratory wildlife including, but not limited to, the implementation of established non-toxic shot strategies.
The Bird Conservation Committee should actively involve Canada and Mexico, and work closely with these Nations and Provinces in pursuit of its mission.
The Committee will support those initiatives that involve international negotiations and be prepared to contribute to the activities and involvement of the International Affairs Committee on matters that affect migratory wildlife.
The Migratory Shore and Upland Game Bird Working Group is responsible for keeping the Association informed on matters impacting all migratory shore and upland game birds.
The working group should keep current with developments and management needs and maintain active liaison with the Fish and Wildlife Service and the Legal Counsel. The subcommittee should work closely with the regional associations on matters related to appropriate wildlife species and should draft and recommend positions to the Executive Committee for action.
The working group shall work closely with the Bird Conservation Committee, the flyway councils, interagency advisory groups, and the Department of the Interior to identify problems and management opportunities regarding migratory shore and upland game birds. The working group should develop objectives and strategies for solving problems and addressing management challenges.
The working group should recognize the international nature of managing migratory shore and upland game birds, and support those initiatives that involve international negotiations and be prepared to contribute to the activities and involvement of the International Affairs Committee and the Migratory Wildlife Committee as appropriate.
